Asia Bibi update/Two Christian sewage workers die saving Christian colleague - Muslim emergency staff refused to help

Published: Mon, 10/25/21

We have had a really busy period and hence apologise for the delay in our monthly newsletter. This newsletter shares many positive accounts to accompany the many real-life persecution reports that we are obliged to inform you about.

UK Mission:

To begin with I share news of our 'Meals for the Homeless' project in Ilford which is still very popular.  The change in climate has done little to erode the swathes of homeless people that attend our centre.  We were very surprised on Saturday to see 7 people turning up 1.5 hours before we began to serve eager to get their choice of meals from the varied menu we provide, even though the temperature had dropped to 6 degrees.  We have run out of Gideon's Bibles to share but hope to re-enact our distribution after obtaining further copies before we begin again this week. Read more (here).

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”  Matthew 4:4

We are beginning to see a number of Afghan families at our centre to collect food.  We recently collected clothes and other reusable items for Afghan refugees which we were to share with a charity led by British Afghans helping newly migrated refugees, but were then told they had no more capacity for gifts.  We ended up delivering them to the Salvation Army only days before local Afghan  refugees began visiting us. Now that we have a larger number of these families attending our meal distribution we would appreciate if your gifts of coats, gloves, scarves and other cold weather gear could be sent to us again, so we can distribute at our centre.  We will be organising a large collection day at our centre on 7th November 2021 from 17:30 - 19:30 and hope more of you are willing to also share unwanted toys, books and other items in good condition that could benefit these families. You can get more information (here) which also includes a recent very encouraging message we received from MP Darren Jones of Bristol West Constituency.

The murder of MP David Amess, reminds us of the need to continue to be vigilant against the type of extremism that leads to such attacks. Our friend Imam Taj Hargey of the Muslim Education Centre of Oxford, is very outspoken about the need to root out the twisted ideologies that seek to divide. Islamic extremism is a real thing just as racism is, but together we can overcome them in our communities by working with the agencies responsible to keep us safe.  My sister Willow only recently began attending a grammar school in Southend not far from where the incident occurred, she laid flowers at the a floral shrine now located before the local Conservative office. The eerie atmosphere in Southend since Mr Amess's death, is a poignant reminder that violent death can only be abhorrent to God - the warped ideology that killing for God is somehow holy is a ludicrous concept brokered by evil maniacs. The Gospel shines a light on this when God is named the Arbiter of justice in Job 9.  Read more (here).

Pakistan:

Asia Bibi has recently published her memoirs in Denmark. True to form media groups called for a comment from us recognising our efforts in helping free Asia Bibi, which included paying £3000 towards her legal cost directly to her husband Ashiq Masih.  Since then we have had several conversations with Asia Bibi and her family even met with her at her first public appearance in France.  To help with the article we undertook a short research into the current situation faced by Christians under the notorious  draconian Pak-blasphemy laws.  Read more (here).

We wrote to you about the Christian mother and son who were shot dead by a local Muslim fanatic in Lahore, who had been offended that the water from their sewers passed by an Islamic shrine.  Well we can now confirm that a legal battle has been won and the killer will face two death sentences.  Read more (click here).

British Asian Christian Association, has won a legal battle to have Muslim terrorists who shot at an innocent Christian village tried under the countries new terrorism laws.  We are confident that the men will be brought to justice. Read more (here)

Two Christian sewage workers who had been forced to work in an obviously dangerous sewage tunnel were killed saving the life of another Christian worker.  Local emergency services refused to help the Christians not because of the filth they were covered in but because of the ritual impurity of their Christianity.  Read more (here) including BBC article.

Homeless people queue in the cold for 1.5 hours to be first to obtain our food

By

Queuing even in the cold is worth the wait for the culinary delights served.

Last month we shared a bit of an evaluation of the success of our ‘Meals for the Homeless’ project (click here).  We continue to observe COVID-19 measures which include; no entry without masks (which we can provide) or sanitizing of hands.  We also require visitors to maintain a 1.5m gap while queuing.  Our food is so popular that our regular visitors are arriving at 4.30pm on Saturdays for a 6pm food distribution.

Desperate need for warm weather clothing to help Afghan refugees – watch MP’s strong words in support of failed Afghan people

By

Bags of clothes, shoes, toys and books delivered to Salvation Army.

We thank you all for your donations of clothes, toys and books for newly migrated Afghan refugees.  We initially were to be partnering with several Afghan groups for distribution all of which were based in North London, but their stockpiles soon began to exceed their storage space.  So we have instead partnered with the local Salvation Army who will be distributing our gifts to Afghan’s temporarily located in Redbridge.

The family of Faisal Masih grieve his death

A Christian sewer worker fell unconscious after entering a known dangerous sewer with high toxicity, after being threatened with the sack when he initially refused.

Two Christian friends concerned about the unconscious man lost their lives trying to rescue him from the known death trap.

Company regulations were broken: One of the rescuers and a survivor had been on suspension due to previous unauthorised absence after already contracting illness while working in the drains.

One of the dead men was not permitted to work in a main drain because he is on a self employment contract and was not a regular employee

Emergency services officers with breathing masks refused to help two unconscious Christians because they were ritually unclean.

Lahore Christian community suffer gun attack causing injuries to several victims

By

A gun attack on a Christian community in Lahore has left several people injured and receiving medical attention.

Fear has gripped the Christian enclave of Shamsabad, Sherakot who fear further attacks.

The attack began after a dispute between a Christian man named Asghar Masih (46 Yrs) and a local drug lord named Dilshad Dogar.  On 5th August at about 6pm Mr Masih was returning home from work and noticed some drug dealing near his property.  He glanced at the dealer for a little bit too long and Mr Dogar , who was with a group of associates, shouted out at him “Choorah (derogatory name for Christians) you have no right to be on these streets, go away from here.”

Asia Bibi’s memoirs published in Denmark lead to Interview with Juliet Chowdhry

By

Image L-R: Hannah Chowdhry of BACA with Asia Bibi and her daughter Esham during Asia's first public appearance.

A Danish Christian newspaper was shown the realities of the blasphemy laws of Pakistan, when interviewing Juliet Chowdhry from British Asian Christian Association,  at the launch of a Danish translation of Asia Bibi’s memoirs.

Asia Bibi was wrongfully arrested and convicted of a blasphemy in 2009 the same year as the British Asian Christian Association was formed  (click here).

The Danish article can be read (here) but requires a subscription, and opens by describing the some of the awful torture Asia Bibi suffered, through an extract from the memoirs.

“My wrists are burning and I am having a hard time breathing. An iron ring, which the prison guard can tighten at will, squeezes around my neck, which my youngest daughter usually holds on with her small arms. A long chain connects my neck with the handcuffs around the prison guard’s wrist. The chain drags across the dirty floor and he pulls at it as if it were a dog leash. Deep down, I feel the fear pull me down towards the darkness of hell. A constant anxiety that never goes away. ”  (A translation taken from Google of the first paragraph of the article which has been shared with us).
