BACA Newsletter – September 2025
“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” Psalm 9:9 Dear Friends and Supporters, This month, we are taking another decisive step in our mission to protect the most vulnerable. We are deeply grateful for your generous donations, much of which was given to help flood victims in Pakistan—work that is already underway to support many
affected families. Now, with your continued help, we are preparing to secure our very first permanent safe house in Pakistan: a place of refuge for Christian families fleeing blasphemy accusations and violent attacks. The house will also be put to use almost immediately, providing shelter for families around Lahore who have lost their homes to the floods and who will assist us with the initial clean-up. Trustee Juliet Chowdhry will soon travel to Pakistan to finalise the
purchase. With only £3500 still to raise, we are closer than ever to establishing this life-saving sanctuary. Read more and donate (here). But even as we move forward with this milestone, countless Christian families are fighting for survival amid some of the heaviest floods in recent memory. In July 2025, heavy monsoon rains caused a home in Christian Colony, Raiwind, to collapse, killing three members of the same family (click here). BACA immediately supported the grieving relatives with funeral costs and began rebuilding their destroyed home (click here). Construction is now near completion, with the roof almost finished (pictured below). A full update will be shared next week once renovation work is completed on Sunday, 14th September. Work has also begun on the collapsed home in Narowal, where
the tragedy claimed the life of two-year-old Anaya Qaisar (click here). Our next newsletter will provide an update on progress there. This new home will soon provide safety and dignity for survivor
Aslam Masih, his wife, children, and siblings—restoring hope after devastating loss. Donor support has made this possible, helping transform tragedy into a story of resilience and compassion.
IMAGE: The roof is nearing completion, with interior renovations progressing steadily alongside. In Lahore, the rising Ravi River wiped out the homes of over 400 families in Chung, forcing them to take refuge in a church with no food or medicine (click here). When the river burst its banks on 28th August, floodwaters engulfed Theme Park View Society within an hour, leaving more than 250 families homeless and dependent on makeshift tents (click here). In Kasur, the River Sutlej swallowed 72 villages, trapping many families for weeks—among them 20 Christian households in Bhikiwind, who ran out of food until our team braved dangerous waters by boat to deliver flour, food
packs, and drinking water (click here). Across Punjab, over 1,600 villages have been devastated, more than 1,000 lives lost, and millions displaced. Many Christian families now
huddle in churches or temporary camps, struggling without food, medicine, or even fuel to cook their meals (click here). BACA is urgently appealing for help to provide food hampers, clean water, gas
cylinders, and medical aid—each food pack costs around £100, and additional staff and travel expenses add to the total cost of our projects, making your partnership vital in this hour of need. Please donate (here) Beyond
Pakistan’s borders, suffering continues for Pakistani Christian asylum seekers stranded in Thailand. Unable to work legally, access healthcare, or educate their children, many live under constant fear of arrest and detention. On 4th September 2025, BACA provided food grants to 10 vulnerable families, offering vital relief and hope (click here). For some, this is the only lifeline sustaining them as they wait—often for over a decade—for third-country resettlement. Your prayers and generosity remain the strength that allows us to bring comfort, relief, and hope where it is
needed most. Together, we can help families stand firm even when the floods rise. Your support enables us to meet tragedy with compassion, rebuild lives with dignity, and shine the light of Christ in places of pain. Thank you for standing faithfully with us. Some urgent appeals from last month remain unmet, and we invite you to revisit them in our last newsletter (here). BACA Brings Hope to Beleaguered Christians Despite Thailand’s Selective Refugee Protection
On 4th September 2025, BACA provided food grants to 10 vulnerable Pakistani Christian asylum-seeking families in Thailand.
Trapped without legal status, these families face daily risks of arrest, detention, and deportation under Thailand’s flawed refugee policies. Juliet Chowdhry criticised Thailand’s National Screening Mechanism
for offering “image over protection” while welcoming new work rights for Myanmar refugees. She urged equal compassion for Pakistani Christians, while BACA continues giving what help it can, reminding them they are not forgotten.
Record-Breaking Flood Ravages Christian Colony in Chung Lahore
A sudden flood from the rising Ravi River has wiped out the homes of over 400 Christian families in Chung Lahore. Families who already lived in poverty have lost everything—furniture, belongings, and years of hard work washed away in hours. Many are now taking refuge in a church, without food, medicine, or basic
necessities. BACA is urgently seeking support to provide life-saving food packages (£100 each) to help these families survive..
Emergency in Lahore: Flooded Families Face Hunger, Disease, and Homelessness
Raj Bibi’s home in Kasur collapsed during heavy rains, putting her and her family at risk. She now lives in a temporary, unsafe shelter with her son and daughter-in-law. BACA has visited and pledged to help rebuild a safe home. Donations are urgently needed to provide shelter, groceries, and
security. When the River Ravi burst its banks on 28th August, floodwaters engulfed Theme Park View Society, Lahore, within an hour. Over 250 Christian families lost everything and many now live in makeshift tents with no food, water, or medical care. On 4th September, BACA responded to a call for help, delivering emergency supplies of food and clean drinking water. Outbreaks
of diarrhoea and skin disease are spreading, and urgent medical assistance is now desperately needed.
Monsoon Devastation Leaves Christian Families Struggling to Survive
Severe monsoon floods in Punjab have devastated over 1,600 villages, claiming more than 1,000 lives and leaving millions displaced. Among the hardest hit are Christian communities in Kasur and Lahore, where homes have been swept away by raging floodwaters. Many families are now sheltering in churches or temporary
camps, with no food, medicine, or belongings left. BACA is urgently appealing for support to provide food hampers and medical aid to these vulnerable Christian families.
A Historic Step: Our First Permanent Safe House in Pakistan
Earlier this year, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we successfully raised over £15,000 towards the purchase of our first ever permanent safe house in Pakistan. These safe houses are vital for offering immediate refuge and security to persecuted Christian families, many of whom face threats to their lives after fleeing violent attacks or false blasphemy
allegations. Unfortunately, despite having the funds in hand, we were unable to finalise the purchase at the time as none of our trustees were able to travel to Pakistan. Now, with a renewed sense of urgency, our Trustee Juliet Chowdhry will soon be travelling to secure the purchase of a safe house.
Supporting Vulnerable Children in Peru — A Personal MissionAlongside my work with BACA, I will soon be joining my university’s Challenges Abroad team to help deprived children in Peru. This opportunity follows the life-changing experience I had in Thailand last year, where I saw first-hand how charities can transform the lives of vulnerable children. I hope to use the skills and
understanding I gained to strengthen BACA’s mission of supporting disadvantaged communities around the world. To help fund this program, our Challenges Abroad team has launched a Chuffed Campaign, and any donation would mean the world to me. So far, I have raised £460 towards the £2,000 needed for this
volunteer experience, and I’m praying that more supporters will join me in making this journey possible. Your generosity will not only enable me to participate in this important work, but will also equip me to bring back fresh ideas, strategies, and inspiration to help BACA continue its fight for justice, safety, and freedom for those who need it most. “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” —
